1917 Jan 21 - Salt Lake

Jan - 21.
Sunday we went to the forenoon Church in the assembly hall & in the afternoon we went to church in the Tabernacle. It was sure great and Oh what a lovely building it is. We sat at the back & we could hear just as clear & plain as though we were right up to the front. & that organ. Gee that is sure a lovely one. The music almost carries one off their seats. At night we went to the show and I remember (Oh that Veal) ha, ha.

1917 Jan 15 - Leaving Raymond

Jan 15, 1917 - Raymond
I left home at 930 on the morning of the 15th day of January 1917 & believe me I don't care to go through the same trial again, for I thought I would just cry my eyes off. To see my dear Mother cry & feel so bad over me leaving, but I will never forget that it was just about as hard for me to break away from LaVern & her folks.

The only thing I had to console me was that I knew I was going away for a good cause & that if I would be humble & prayerful, that everything would be alright & that I would return home safe & sound to them all again after my work was finished. After bidding all my friends & loved ones good-bye, I left Raymond feeling quite blue but I soon forgot myself (at least I tried to). Taking in the beautiful sights, such as around Stirling. Warmer, eh?

I reached the line at Coutts & all that I was asked was was where are you going, where was I born & how old was I. I thought that was quite easy. From there we went to Great Falls, arrived there at 11 00 p.m. that night, left the next morning, 10 30 a.m., landed at Firth [Idaho] the next morning at 5 am. Ray Fittes was at the station to meet. I stayed with them two days & then left for Salt-Lake where I arrived at 5 pm at night.

Olga & her chum was at the train to meet me. I got a room at the same place where Olga was staying, at night we went to the show & laugh. I just thought I would just die laughing at the fools that way they acted on the stage, I never will forget the little heavy light girl that was there.

All the next day, which was Sat the 20th of January 1917, Olga & I took in the sights of the City & did some shopping & I wrote two letters: one to the folks & one to LaVern. I bought a suit, club bag & hat.
